PGA Championship — Snake Draft!

We’re back at it again. Following the success of the 4 person snake draft for the Open, we figured we could continue for the final major of the year. Selection order this time was Picking order was Grant -> Mike -> Jack -> Wyatt. Updates throughout the week!

Hard to lose when you have 5 in the top 10. Good job Wyatt.

Wyatt: -65

Grant: -55

Jack: -47

Mike: -38

The Rules

10 players for each team picked in a snake draft. Best combined score from top 5 players wins.

Grant’s Picks

  1. Jordan Spieth
  2. Dick Fowler
  3. Hank Stenson
  4. Matt Kuchar
  5. Zach Johnson
  6. Keegan Bradley
  7. Tiger Woods
  8. Danny Lee
  9. Tony Finau
  10. David Lingmerth

Mike’s Picks

I believe that this squad will lead all other squads in driving distance. I also believe that at least three of these players will make the cut. The only thing that could have gone worse would have been picking Omar Uresti in the 6th round as was briefly considered. On the bright side, there are four players on the team that could legitimately win this weekend, which is probably only one fewer than the other teams. Shane Lowry will be my rock, my island, my sunny day during monsoon season, and for that I am thankful.

  1. Bubba Watson
  2. Rory McIlroy
  3. Jim Furyk
  4. Paul Casey
  5. Shane Lowry
  6. Phil Mickelson
  7. Justin Thomas
  8. Billy Horschel
  9. JB Holmes
  10. Jamie Donaldson

Jack’s Picks

Went with the PGA Pro Helminen for the last pick because I figured my first nine picks were already going to be the top 9 in the tournament. Big fan of Louis. 2nd in the last two majors so he’s good on the big stage. Strategy was to pick guys that I knew were going to do well. And vegas odds.

  1. Jason Day
  2. Adam Scott
  3. Louis Oosthuizen
  4. Hideki Matsuyama
  5. Martin Kaymer
  6. Brandt Snedeker
  7. Jimmy Walker
  8. Luke Donald
  9. Charl Schwartzel
  10. Ryan Helminen

Wyatt’s Picks

I went with as little thought as possible to be honest. Took the best available early (i.e. Rose) and then found a few darkhorses (Grace, Na, Streb). Luckily, I was able to grab the Wisconsin native and local hero (Stricker) with the last pick to make up for the putting ineptitude of my first few selections.

  1. Justin Rose
  2. Dustin Johnson
  3. Sergio Garcia
  4. Brooks Koepka
  5. Patrick Reed
  6. Branden Grace
  7. Kevin Na
  8. Robert Streb
  9. Kevin Kisner
  10. Steve Stricker
