Beating Vegas Week 4 — The Players Championship

Week 4 of this betting experiment is The Players Championship. With one of the top fields all year, the Players is loaded with favorites. Will that change the betting strategies? Let’s find out.

Jack “My mom still signs me up for tournaments” S’s picks:

The Players. #OurChampionship. Island Green. I came into this week thinking that TPC Sawgrass has an unusual amount of favorites win. But looking at the Wikipedia page, names like Tim Clarke, KJ Choi, and Stephan Ames standout among the normal, “expected” past winners. To that I say, screw it I’m going with the favorites.

Rory McIlroy (12/1): $10

Adam Scott (15/1): $10

Matt Kuchar (16/1): $10

Luke Donald (22/1): $10

Justin Rose (22/1): $10

Sergio Garcia (22/1): $10

Phil Mickelson (25/1): $10

Henrik Stenson (25/1): $10

Jordan Speith (28/1): $10

Bubba Watson (30/1): $10

Mike “If I could pick Westwood every week I would” M’s picks:

Adam Scott: (15:1) $20

Matt Kuchar: (16:1) $20

Sergio Garcia: (22:1) $20

Lee Westwood: (33:1) $10

Steve Stricker: (100:1) $10

K.J. Choi: (200:1) $10

David Lingmerth: (210:1) $10

Switching up the strategy a hair. Going with $20 for the guys who I think have the best shot to win, but sticking with $10 for the outside chance guys. I refuse to stop picking Westwood, even though he has played pretty bad in the US. His win overseas a few weeks ago makes me believe and I so desperately want to believe. Scott, Kuchar, and Garcia are no-brainers for me taking into account recent play and past play here. Stricker, Choi, and Lingmerth have terrible odds and I like that.

Grant “In pretty drunk. This is my writeup.” F’s picks:

The Players Championship is upon us. Let us all not wallow in my losing streak, but rather quest for greatness by beating Vegas this week, presented without comment here is the way to take down Vegas:
Kuchar 16/1 $20

Donald  22/1 $20

Michelson 25/1 $20

Watson 30/1  $10

Furyk 33/1 $10

Matsuyama 100/1 $5

Woodland 100/1 $5

Moore 100/1 $5

Stricker 100/1 $5
